Margot Morales (she/they) is a writer, performer, director, and comedian in Melbourne.

They received a $20,000 commission from Melbourne Fringe to create their latest solo work IN THE LIKELY EVENT OF FOREVER, which won the 2023 Green Room Award for Best Writing in Cabaret and received the Headroom Award supported by RISING. The show was also nominated for Green Room Awards in Best Production and Best Artiste.

Margot is currently an Artistic Associate at Melbourne Theatre Company where they’ve previously worked as Associate Director for Benjamin Law’s TORCH THE PLACE, Assistant Director on Florian Zeller’s THE TRUTH, and presented their own play DEAD IN A LIVEABLE CITY at Cybec Electric 2021.

As a musical comedian, her solo show VANITY FAIR ENOUGH was nominated for the Golden Gibbo at the 2019 Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Margot has also performed their original songs at the Enmore Theatre, Forum Theatre, and with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra for Eddie Perfect’s Perfect End To 2020.

Their show PSYCHE404ERROR, a queer digital adaptation of Eros and Psyche, won Best Work in Festival at Melbourne Fringe 2021 and was nominated for a 2022 Green Room Award in Experimental Practice.

As a director, Margot recently directed the sold-out season of Anna Piper Scott’s AN EVENING WITH JK for Melbourne Fringe 2023. In 2022, they directed the sold-out season of CLUB NITE by Lotte Beckett, Anjelica Angwin, and Matisse Laida at the nightclub Miscellania and AND SHE WOULD STAND LIKE THIS by Harrison David Rivers with Antipodes Theatre Company at the Meat Market Stables for Midsumma.

Recently, Margot has been expanding their dance practice. They performed in Shelley O’Meara’s TITS OUT at Dancehouse, participated in Arts House's development lab for Riana Head-Toussaint’s ANIMATE LOADING, and completed a directing secondment on Lucy Guerin Inc.'s NEWRETRO.

Margot developed a new musical as part of CAAP/Hayes Theatre’s 2021 Making A Musical program and her play Cowards was shortlisted for the Max Afford Playwrights Award 2020. She has also developed play for MTC/EWF’s First Stage, Midsumma Festival, and a web series with Cinespace StoryLab.

Margot is currently C0-Chair of the Cabaret panel for the Green Room Awards.
